Good evening everyone,
Finally getting a chance to jot a line about the first outing with the Petromax. We had perfect weather for the three day Labor Day weekend in the north Georgia Mountains and the lantern worked flawlessly. The new SS nozzle puts out a tremendous amount of bright white light (as much or more then the two duel mantle Colemans that where burning a couple of sights down from ours) and believe me, it's dark up there away from the Atlanta lights when there is no moon. The gnats got bad the second night so I mixed a half a tank of Citronella with the white gas and that did seem to help. I think the SS nozzle works as advertised, it's a good upgrade. By the way , the staples I put in the mantle worked good too (see my "Back to the mantles" post in forum 3) its a good fix for those of you who are having trouble with the mantles blowing out at the first lighting. And as always practice makes perfect, I can light the lantern with ease using the bowl or the "torch". I love my Petromax! Don |

Your right about the Petromax being brighter than colemans. I went on a church outing/camping trip once with my lantern.
There were several colemans there and all were lit up. My Petromax was brighter than all of them put together. At that time I had the old style ceramic nozzle. The new SS nozzle hadn't been invented yet. I don't have that lantern anymore sad to say. |
