Now that it's dark again in the evenings, I broke out my 500cp in my quest for odor-free burning. I'm trying it with Klean-Heat, a synthetic kerosene that's supposed to be odorless. Burns like kerosene in hurricane lanterns, so thought I would try it in my Britelyt.

I had been having trouble with flame-ups, both with the Klean-Heat and with everything else (kero, odorless mineral spirits, etc.) so switched the jet with the spare in the parts kit in the hope of leaning out the flow, and in doing so noticed that tightening the jet can rotate the whole generator tube and loosen the long brass nut at the bottom of the generator tube. I repositioned the generator tube and tightened the long brass nut, too, and re-lit the lantern, and voila, no more flame-ups!

I still get some odor of the fuel, however, and tested the lantern with the cap/cover off so I could see the jet and the air gap. I noticed that when the gap is maximized for leanest mixture, some vaporized fuel seems to miss the big tube opening above it. Is it possible that my jet is misaligned with the big tube opening? Or vice versa? I tried reducing the gap, which eliminated a small amount of pulsing in the light output, but the fuel smell got richer.

I am wondering if it is possible to lean out the mix a little more to reduce fuel smell, maybe with a different nozzle (250cp or 350cp?) from a smaller lantern, or to better align the jet and big tube opening, or both. Anyone have any ideas?

Light output, as usual, is fantastic. Lit the whole garage this evening with nothing but the Britelyt running on the Klean-Heat.

Hello,

Clean up part #152 and #101 also tighten up parts # 50, keep part #33 adjusted high real high.

Would not be able to use the #50 from a 150CP to small it would run on a #50 from a 250CP.

Thank you, Mark. Will the 500cp needle still fit the smaller #50's orifice, or would I need a smaller needle, too?

Since you recommended the 250cp
#50, does that mean that the 350cp #50 is the same size as the 500cp #50?

Hi,

If using the 250CP #50 we have #68 for the 250CP nipple.

As the 350CP #50 is not the same as the 500CP #50.
But the 350CP lantern is a 500CP lantern the only thing makes them different is #50 and #68 for 350CP, and we do not make the #50 350CP any more.
