I purchased my 500CP lantern for it's ability to burn aviation fuel. I camp with my airplane and weight means a lot to me. I don't bring extra fuel with me when I go camping because of the weight. I fill the lantern with diesel or jet fuel before I leave for a camping trip and then top off the fuel with avgas from my wing tanks as needed while camping. My lantern is always the brightest light in the campground. If it is cold or damp out, I bring the lantern into my tent as we are getting ready for bed and let it run for a few minutes just to take the chill and dampness out of the tent before we go to sleep. Avgas does contain lead and using it requires me to clean the jet everyday. A Coleman lantern will only run about 10 minutes on leaded fuel before it fails to stay lit because of the jet being plugged by the lead. Sometimes we like to read at night and the 500CP is bright enough to read by. We can set it in the middle of our camp table and read from sitting anywhere at the table.
