Is Britelyt doing any research in alternative mantle technology? I saw where a leading lantern manufacturer has a unit that uses, from what I understand, a platinum mesh rather than a conventional mantle. It would seem to me a platinum bag would be workable as platinum not only is very heat resistant, incandesses nicely, but is also a catalyst which would help get every last candlepower/hour out of each drop of fuel. Platinum, however, is not cheap, but it would seem to me the army might be interested in a mantle that doesn't disappear in a wind storm, or could be washed out if the lantern got submerged...

Perhaps some ceramic "basket" or "bowl" would work. There are several elements that incandess at reasonable temperatures... Personally, I'd buy a thorium mantles if I could find them... The Britelyt Limelight...

On Mantles we are working on a new one all the time, as for hard mesh mantles none have worked so far.

Ceramic mantle did not work it’s been tried and most all hard mantles, the problem was very little to no light.

We are working on the best mantle made today, it would not break even if you shake the lantern, but the cost to our customers would be approx. $2.99 to $3.99 each.

We will update when we have them.

If I could get a mantle that was real tough and lasted for a very long time I wouldn't hesitate to pay $3.99 for it. If it cost $5.00 I would still buy one.
