I saw that one could use citronella tiki torch oil in the Britelyt to help keep bug away. Tiki oil, being kerosene, bought as tiki fuel is a bit expensive. It looks like PURE citrolella oil is about $20/Qt. Adding this pure oil to kerosene at a 5 to 10 percent rate seems like it would yield the same thing, minus the pretty yellow dye, at a fraction of the price of the commercial product. Has Britelyt considered selling PURE citronella oil as a fuel suppliment?
I saw one source on the 'net that sells a yellow globe for the 500CP, the yellow color being prefered at night because it is not as attractive to bugs. Has Britelyt considered selling colored globes, especially yellow, for BOTH the 500CP and the 150CP? Join the NRA today! |

"Adim" Methanol Lantern |
Hello,
We may carry the globes some day, but testing we did at keeping away bugs did not work only the citronella oil worked. BriteLyt Thank you and God Bless!! |

Please do carry the globes. The "other source" said they hadn't had them in about 5 years...
There may be some misunderstanding about the use of yellow for "bug lights". The yellow does NOT REPELL insects, it is that the yellow light does NOT ATTRACT them as much as a full spectrum light source would. Insect vision is in the upper part of our visual spectrum, blue and violet, and extends into the ultravoilet, they really don't see wavelengths longer than green, such as yellow, orange, or red well. The insect's view of many flora is often much different than a human's. That is why "bug zappers" frequently use violet or UV lights, to be attractive to bugs but not annoying or blinding to humans... The one-two punch of a light that is not attractive and a scent that is repulsive to bugs is a proven, winning combination. Join the NRA today! |

I thought there would be a significant amount of citronella oil used. The stuff at Chinamart is only 0.05%, yes 1/20th of one percent, yes one part in two thousand of citronella... SO please ignore my post suggesting the use of 5 or 10 percent...
